Doing Nothing During the Pandemic?

Maybe you feel like nothing is getting done, when there’s all the time in the world to check things off your home to do list right now. But in fact, if you’re like me, you’re spending a lot of time worrying. Worrying about family, friends and the future. It feels like days fly by and NOTHING IS GETTING DONE.

Facebook portal makes virtual visits with family and friends feel like the real thing. The hyper-sensitive camera zooms and pans automatically to give your viewers (and your views of them) an experience like no other. During the COVID-19 pandemic, Facebook Portal is the best way to stay in touch! While not being used to connect in person, the Portal displays photos in a virtual frame. Lots more functionality! With all the best intentions, there are closets to clean out, projects to plan and complete, offices to organize, plus creativity to unleash during this quiet time when there is nothing else to do! (Not to mention mastering that online class I’ve been meaning to take.)

And yet none of that has happened. Argh!

But Wait Things ARE Getting Done

I’ve been exercising. A LOT! I’ve been in contact with family and friends. A LOT! I’ve been cooking. A LOT! I’ve planned and executed two corona virtual birthday parties.

I’ve been sharing ideas with people over social media for ways to give back to our community. I’ve actually done some work work, too.

Give Yourself a Break!

I think if there’s one thing I need to work on, it’s giving myself a break for feeling like I’m not getting anything done.

In fact, I think I need to give myself a break for beating myself up about worrying: Everyone’s worrying!

We just don’t know what the future holds and that is worrying. So, what’s a little worrying when the entire world is uncertain about the future?

Daily Practice

One of the best things I’ve done during this time, is helping my community learn and participate in daily yoga classes led by a trained professional or else by me. I don’t really count that as “getting something done” but I should because it’s important to exercise and I’ve learned a lot about myself and video conferencing technology during the process.

I’ve also embraced a mantra that is key: Let It Go!

If that’s a cute song you’re humming in your head, then so be it.

Getting things knocked off your list, or not, worrying or not, just let it go!

Just let it go and enjoy the flowers

Let It Go

Have faith and trust in your family, your neighbors, your communities (used as a plural on purpose because we have so many communities we are part of), your nation and the world, that we people will do the best we can to take care of each other.

We’re in this together. We’ll get out of it together.

Are you worrying about something? Share it and let it go!!

Got strategies for dealing with worry or how to let things go? Share that too! We’d absolutely love to hear from you.

If you’d like to join daily yoga practice at 9:30 central, reach out to us (see contact us section) and we’ll add you to the invite list!

I have a “things I did” list for this time. When I feel like I am doing nothing I look at the list. It is in my phone, so handy anywhere. I says things like: ordered groceries online 3xs, cleaned out the driveway garden bed, read Inferno by Dan Brown, walked to Michelle’s house 3xs. It starts to get very long and I feel like I am pretty amazing when I look it over. You have reminded me to update the list for the last couple of days. I have to add: soaked beans overnight and cooked them for dinner, organized Zoom “dinner party,” and texted my daughter about Mother’s Day. Lots is happening during this stay at home time!

    1. That’s a GREAT list, Laura! You’re rockin’ it! Mine says things like “drink a cuppa tea” – checked that one about 6 times already today LOL

  3. This is just what I needed to read today, thank you! I’m not getting done much of anything that usually requires concentrated attention, so I just started to journal with lists (worries, facts, comfort foods, comforting people, little things I accomplished,) accompanied by little drawings/paintings, because someday I might want to look at this unusual, challenging time period and wonder what was I thinking and doing?

    1. Thanks so much for your comment! We Love this idea! Journaling is SOOO Healthy. And even if you never read it again and it winds up in the trash, at least it’s off your mind and onto another surface, so you can declutter and let go.

  4. This is just what I needed to “hear” today!

    1. So glad… You remind me that someday we need to start a queenager podcast where you really can HEAR things! LOL! Thanks for the feedback. It is appreciated. I hope you’ll check back to our site again as we’ve added new articles in the past few weeks.

  7. Great article. The best thing I’ve been getting done is giving up some guilt I have about procrastination, at which I am VERY GOOD. But I’m also taking that Yale Coursera course on Well-being. I started it in 2018, and never finished. So now there’s a chance if I just do it this time. I like being a “Yalie”, and it’s free. Plus very much enjoying your yoga help! Thanks!

    1. You’re so welcome! You’re an “Eli” as Yalies are called in crossword puzzle clue answers. I think it has something to do with Elihu Yale who started the school!

  8. Staying organized is about discipline have a plan before you go to sleep. I always do a things to do list to feel accomplished

    1. Thanks for the comment Lauren! Great tip!
