When Your Colleagues Are the Same Age as Your Children

When you’ve been there/done that and are sick and tired of the workplace drama, there’s one place you can turn for relief: She’s The Day at shestheday.com. Here, we’ll turn to experts who can help you navigate the world of work when it’s quite possible a Millennial is your boss and the term “OK Boomer” is an insult that you didn’t even know about.

Stay tuned and subscribe to shestheday.com so you’ll be the first to find out when new work-related articles become available.

The world of work is changing. Our younger sisters have launched and are enforcing the “Me Too” movement to counteract the insidious behavior of sexual abuse and assault by (generally) men in power over their subordinates. Gretchen Carlson, Megyn Kelly and others are having their stories made into blockbuster movies. Bad and racist behavior in the workplace is getting more attention and being called out. You go, Gabrielle Union!

But there’s still a huge problem in the workforce for people (especially women) over the age of 50. We are still capable of working, have much to offer and many skills, but …. we become expendable. We’re probably more expensive to hire than younger people and not as liable to swallow the proverbial kool-aid of workplace bull, if you know what I mean. We’ve been around the block and seen it all, over and over. You do become a bit jaded.

That being said, if you want to get something done, give it to a busy woman! It will get done.

Even so, I have seen many of my friends–ultimately capable, experienced and competent women over age 50–become unemployed. This is a disconcerting trend. We are too young to retire, not old enough for Medicare and often still have huge expenses in front of us (college for kids, home payments, etc., not to mention health insurance).

What to do? Well… let’s start by sharing stories. Subscribe and as soon as a story is published, you’ll be first to know.
